Applicants must be able to demonstrate:
a. An inability to compete to purchase a suitable house in that area on the open market as a result of personal income levels or other relevant circumstances, including status as a first-time buyer;
b. Suitability of dwelling accommodation for the size of the applicant’s household.

In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate a LOCAL CONNECTION with the area through work, family, cultural networks or existing residency for a period of one year.

In application of criteria relative to local connection, the following timeframes will be applied from the point of the unit being made available for sale:
(i) Until the 1st April 2021, the affordable unit will be made available to applicants who are able to demonstrate a local connection to the Portpatrick Community Council area;
(ii) From the 2nd April 2021, if no suitable applicants have been presented to the Housing Trust, the affordable unit will be open to applicants who are able to demonstrate a local connection to the Wigtownshire area of Dumfries and Galloway.
(iii) From the 30th April 2021, if no suitable applicants have been presented to the Housing Trust, the affordable unit will be open to applicants who are able to demonstrate a local connection to the Dumfries and Galloway region.
(iv) Please note – No further affordable housing applications will be accepted after 03rd August 2021.

Please note that the Housing Trust may review from time to time the prioritised criteria of eligibility for assistance with the purchase of the affordable housing unit (and if the prioritised criteria are amended, they will be published).
